M's Notebook | Guillen wants Seattle to be home

Baseball's ultimate nomad is looking to finally set down some roots.

棒球浪人終於想要定下來了。

Mariners right fielder Jose Guillen is with his eighth major-league team in 10 years and said he has tired of moving around. Guillen has hit a robust .431 in July, with a dozen runs batted in, and would like to top the month off by exercising a mutual option for 2008 in his contract.

But before he agrees to do that, he wants the Mariners to extend him beyond next season.

"I want to stay in one place and try to build a nice career," Guillen said. "I don't want to be here for one year. I love these people and I love this town. It's a baseball town. I love the enthusiasm of people. And the people have been respecting me here."

"All I want to talk about is baseball," he said. "We're winning right now and I want it to be about the team and the games, not about Jose Guillen."

But both sides are trying to wrap up talks by month's end — in the team's case, so it knows where it stands outfield-wise for coming years.

Seattle has a pair of highly touted outfield prospects in Class AAA, Adam Jones and Wladimir Balentien, but only one would be needed if Ichiro and Guillen were locked up for several years. Guillen is only 30 and feels he has several years of baseball left in him after offseason Tommy John ligament-transplant surgery on his elbow.

"I don't have that right now."
